Thottikallu Falls also known as ‘Swarn Mukhi Falls’ is a popular
waterfall located along the Kanakapura Main Road, which is roughly
around 33.5 km from Bangalore city center. At the starting point of this
waterfall lies the Muneshwara Temple which lends a spiritual appeal to
the waterfall.
2. Muthyala Maduvu Falls, Anekal Bangalore
The Muthyala Maduvu, also known as Pearl Valley, is another gem of a
waterfall and a popular picnic spot. Located only 43 km from Bangalore
it too makes for a great place for a family day trip. Trekking
enthusiasts can also try hiking and trekking at the nearby hillocks. The
best time to visit this waterfall is from October to March.
3. Chunchi Falls, Kanakapura Bangalore
The Chunchi Falls located at a distance of approximately 90 km is a
charming and exquisite waterfall popular among the tourists. What makes
this waterfall so popular is the 100 feet drop of the gushing waters
into a small plunge pool. In addition to that, the natural rock
formations and the surrounding lush greenery lends it a very exotic
look. Some of the activities one can enjoy here include camping,
picnics, trekking, and swimming.
4. Mekedatu Falls, Kanakpura, Ramnagara
Lying at a distance of 99 km from Bangalore is the Mekedatu Falls also
known as the Goats Leap. It is a deep narrow gorge through which the
Kaveri river gushes out rendering a sight to behold. Getting to the
Mekedatu Falls involves a short trek through the rocky terrain. One can
also enjoy fishing over here, however, swimming is prohibited owing to
strong undercurrents. The best time to visit this waterfall is during
the monsoon season i.e. from October to March
5. Shivanasamudra Falls, Mandya
Shivanasamudra Falls is probably one of the most popular waterfall .
The Shivanasamudra islands divide this majestic waterfall into two
equally captivating waterfalls namely – Gaganachukki and Bharachukki
fall. One can enjoy the view of the waterfall from the Shivanasamudra
watch tower and also enjoy a coracle ride from the Bharachukki to
Gaganachukki waterfall. Swimming is strictly prohibited here.
6. Hogennakal Falls, Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu
The Hogennakkal Falls has the unique distinction of being referred to as
the ‘Niagara of India’. The wildly gushing Kaveri river descends
through 14 channels with drops varying between 15 and 65 feet. The
distance from Bangalore to Hogennakal is around 127. 2 km and the best
time to visit this waterfall is from July to October.
7. Chunchunakatte Falls, Mysore
Located at a distance of 190 km, in the Krishnarajanagara Taluk of
Mysore District lies the mystical Chunchunakatte Falls that holds an
interesting Hindu mythological story behind the light turmeric shade of
the water. The best time to visit this waterfall is from October to
March.
