Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, the missile man of India is the most inspiring figure from the presidents of India. The reason is may be the great achievement he attained in his life, struggling against the troubles he faced. Here, I mention some interesting facts that may not be familiar about him.
Born in 15 October 1931 at Rameswaram of Tamil Nadu to a poor family which consisted of his father, Jainulabidheen who was a boat owner and his mother and others, A.P.J Abdul Kalam often faced poverty and challenges in his life. Kalam was the youngest of their 5 children.
In his childhood, Kalam had collected newspapers which were brought from DhanushKodi mail train and rushed to become the first one who distributes them through cities and towns. There was a time that his family had not enough money to pay his school fees.
The state government of Tamil Nadu announced that 15 October, the birthday of Kalam, would be celebrated in the state as ‘Youth Renaissance Day’ as a great honor for the former president of the nation. The government also began to give an award in the name of Kalam.
It is an interesting fact that Kalam was an active user of social media especially Twitter. His Twitter account had more than 1.4 million followers. He always tried his best to interact with people through each of his tweets as he was engaged in public speeches in front of students.
Although he was a Muslim, Kalam had showed his interest in playing Veena and also he spent time in reading Bhagavad Gita along the holy Qur’an. He had also written poems in Tamil in several issues. The secular manners of Kalam were influenced by the environment where Kalam lived and grew up.
