Tamil Nadu Police enforces Section 144 to further strengthen lockdown 3.0 |
In an attempt to further strengthen the lockdown, the Tamil Nadu police on Friday said that Section 144 are going to be strictly adhered to across the state and anyone found in violation will face legal consequences. Section 144 of the CrPC prohibits quite five people from assembling at an area for any reason.
This announcement comes hours after the Central government extended the lockdown till May 17. Moreover, the amount of cases registered within the state has been increasing daily over the previous couple of days. On Friday, 203 new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported within the state, 176 of which are from Chennai.
Data released by the Chennai Corporation shows that of the 1,082 cases reported from Chennai, 841 are active cases, 219 patients have recovered and 16 have succumbed to the infection. Male patients account for 63.01 per cent of Chennai's cases while female patients account for the remaining 36.99 per cent.
With 259 cases, Chennai's Thiru Vika nagar accounts for a lion's share of the confirmed cases, followed by Royapuram with 216 cases. Teynampet (132), Kodambakkam (116), and Tondiarpet (101) are areas that have reported quite 100 cases so far .The Greater Chennai Corporation has also identified five major clusters within the city.
