Paintings as well as the Photographs of the royal family are exhibited in the portrait gallery on the southern part of the kalyana mantapa.
There are two large photographs which are nearly 100 years
old. one of them depicts KrishnaRaja Wodeyar IV with his younger brother Kanthirava Narasimha Raja Wodeyar.and his sister Jayalakshmammanniavaru popularly known by the apellation Vani vilasa Sannidhana,who was the responsible for the reconstruction of the Modern Mysore palace.Both Photographs were done by DelTUFO&CO. The Picture of VaniVilasa Sannidhana has the date 1897.
The Miniature Painting in water colour with gold,is of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III (1799-1868),a portrait done in his advanced age.
The oil painting on canvas of kanthirava narasimharaja Wodeyar was done by FELLIX WECKSLER. It depicts the young yuvaraja in his twentees.
The large portrait of chamaraja Wodeyar (1868-1894)which is a boromideon canvas shows that the palace photographer AR Vasu,adopted a technique of making thin boromide prints to be pasted on canvas.
The portrait gallery is proud to exhibit two works of the famous Royal Artist Ravivarma dated in 1885.The signature of Royal Artist mentions "Ravivarma Coil Thumluran,1885". One of the portraits of this great artist depicts child Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV .who is one year old,seated ina pram along with his elder sister viz...jayalakshmammanniavaru and kemps Chaluvajammanniavaru. The younger sister has a toy horse on a wheeled plank,attached to a string.
The other portrait is of the year old child king Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV ,on a cushion in a crawling
posture.The diaphanous frock of the child rajais excellently executed by the royal Artist. Both the paintings depict the typical jewellery of the period for the children of the affluent.
The two large portraits of the british king edward VI and his queen alexandra are worthy of note.These signed portraits were executed by the english artist Harold speed and are dated 1903.They have the original wooden,antique frame with plaster of paris mould work,painted with gold leaf paint.They were originally in the government house,Mysore which served as the royal residence during their visit to mysore in 1906.
