Matheran-Smallest hill station in India


Matheran,a hill station in Maharashtra near Mumbai.It is the smallest hill station in India with only 7 sq.km area.The nearest station to matheran is Neral.
Highlights:-

    • How to reach?

  • The nearest railway station to matheran is Neral.
  • After reaching Mumbai,you can directly go upto Neral from anywhere in mumbai using local trains.
  • After reaching Neral,there are two options.One is Toy train and the other is Cab.(Note:-Toy train is available only in the early mornings and also toy train will not be functioning in monsoons due to heavy rains.)
  • So,the second option of cab is preferable as the cabs are readily available outside station any time.Also,the charges of the cab are fixed by the government (i.e.80 rs per person).It would take around half an hour to reach matheran.

    • Important points to watch
    1)Alexander point
    It is the point which is far inside,which you feel like going to some strange place.But,after reaching the view point one will definitely feel satisfied and relaxed with its natural beauty 

    2)Charlotte lake
    It will be at the centre of Matheran.water to mathura is supplied by Charlotte lake.It is a good tourist spot.

    3)Echo point
    It is one of the major points in Matheran,where echo can be heard of your voice.
    4)One tree hill point
    This point has a speciality of view of a one tree hill which resembles face of a huge Gorilla(King-Kong)
    5)Porcupine point(Sun set point)
    It is the farthest point in Matheran,which is famous for its sun set view.
    6)Panorama Point(Sun rise point)
    It is one big highlight with its visual beauty during sun rise.But,you reach there early in the morning.
    7)Louisa point
    It is the biggest view point of all the points,with 360 deg view and also has an access to a hill edge,which thrills you with its beauty.

    These are the major points one should watch out for.Other than these,there are around 25 minor points.
    Note:-
    There are large number of monkeys in matheran.I would suggest you not to carry food items in your hands,as the monkeys are aggressive in snatching the food items.
    Accomodation:-
    Generally,one day is sufficient for matheran if you are an energetic person.Otherwise,you can stay there for a night and resume your trip by next day.There are almost more than 100 lodges in matheran.I suggest you not to book the hotels online,you can directly reach the hotels and bargain,which would cost you lesser.
